Description
Visit Araburg again from 15 May 2020!
ARABURG castle ruins, built 800 metres above sea level, are the highest in Lower Austria. It was built in 1180 as a defence post against enemies and to safeguard the trade route across the Gerichtsberg Pass. It is closely linked to the history of Kaumberg. The former fortress is still recognisable today. There is a stunning panoramic view of the surroundings from the former castle tower. The ARABURG castle plays take place every two years. The national museum, built from the stones of the Araburg, is open to visitors from May until the end of October. Images, plans, findings and models tell the history and development of the market community.
