Brief description

A challenging tour with a lot of forest floor and some steeper sections, but one that will make any Gravler's heart beat faster.

Description

Directly from Hütteldorf railway station, the route runs along the Wien River and into the forest near Hadersdorf. A challenging tour with a lot of forest floor and some steeper sections, but one that makes every cyclist's heart beat faster. The beautiful forest roads are interrupted by the pleasantly quiet Wienerwald villages of Mauerbach, Irenental and Baunzen, which blend beautifully into the hilly landscape of the Vienna Woods.

Route description Gravel bike tour Mauerbach

We start in Hütteldorf at the forecourt of the railway station and cycle along Keißlergasse. We leave the next roundabout at the third exit and join the Vienna River cycle path. We follow this until shortly after Mariabrunn, where we then turn right into Badgasse. We follow this road until we reach Mauerbachstraße, where we immediately turn into Bahnstraße. Follow this road, keep right at the next junction and then turn into Buchbergstraße. This leads us into the forest. Follow the path straight ahead until you reach Auf der Sulz Straße in Mauerbach. Go through Mauerbach and continue along Hirschengartenstraße and Passauerhofstraße to reach the Planetenweg on the left in Passauerhof. We follow this to Laabach where we then cycle a short distance on the Troppbergweg. Over the Troppberg, through the Irenental valley to Untertullnerbach or Neu-Purkersdorf, we continue in the biosphere reserve to Baunzen. From there we cycle along the West motorway to the Wiental cycle path. We then cross the Wientalstraße, take the first exit at the roundabout and return to the starting point.

Equipment

A safe and functional gravel bike or equivalent is required for all routes. Racing bikes or other bikes with narrow and/or slippery tyres are not suitable. A helmet and gloves will protect you in the event of a fall. Tools, tyre levers, pump and spare inner tube will help in the event of a puncture. Sufficient provisions (food and drink) should be carried along as well as a mobile phone and wind/rain jacket.

Safety information

Attention! Due to extensive construction work in the area of the west exit, large-scale diversions have been set up in both directions along the cycle path!

Check the functionality of brakes and tyres before every ride. Always ride with a view to danger and at a controlled speed and adapt the choice of route to the riding ability of the group and the weather. The fair play rules in the forest and the road traffic regulations must be observed. If there are stones, roots or steep sections on the route, simply dismount and push the bike if in doubt.
