Description
Das neue Beethovenhaus Baden
Welcome to Beethovenhaus Baden
Ludwig van Beethoven regularly took the waters in Baden. When Emperor Franz I spent his summers there with his family, Baden was bustling with members of the high aristocracy and upper middle class, including patrons of the great composer. In the summers of 1821, 1822, and 1823, Beethoven lodged at Rathausgasse 10, where he composed important sections of his Ninth Symphony.
In Beethoven’s time, Rathausgasse 10 was owned by a coppersmith in the ground floor and the composer logded in the upper floor. Since autumn 2014, the Beethovenhaus Baden has been home to a new type of museum. Visitors can look forward to an audio adventure and the chance for an in-depth encounter with the Ninth Symphony. The life led by the genius in Baden and its environs is vividly presented in compelling pictorial exhibits.
The original wall painting in Beethoven’s summer apartment was restored in 2014. The museum is the only one of its kind in the world and offers visitors an opportunity to immerse themselves in the composer’s life.
