Gaisstein

In the municipal area of Furth an der Triesting, in the Gutenstein Alps, is the 974 meter high Gaisstein. The summit region is rocky and almost treeless, which gives the mountain an alpine character. The summit ridge is delimited in the north by a striking rock face. Neighboring mountains are the Hocheck and the Kieneck.

The summit is fenced off because there is a wildlife enclosure there. However, over two places this fence can be overcome to reach the summit.

Hike to the Gaisstein

Most hikers start the rather unknown hike to the Gaisstein in the municipality of Furth an der Triesting. After a short ascent, the last part of the trail leads along a wooded path, which is marked with cairns, to the panoramic summit at almost 1,000 meters above sea level. Behind the summit the rocks drop steeply, ATTENTION: danger of falling!

Hikers can fortify themselves in the "Valley of the Innkeepers" as the recreation village Furth is also called. Because here the guests are spoiled culinary.

Excursion tip in the surrounding area

The popular excursion destination Steinwandklamm is located near the Gaisstein. The hiking world Steinwandklamm at 549 m above sea level, is one of the most beautiful, wild and exciting karst gorges in Lower Austria.
