History
According to tradition, in 1955 the last soldier of the Russian army boarded a train here in Pfaffstätten to leave Austria. The event was announced by the Badener Volksblatt at the time and described the warm farewell of the Soviet troops with their wives and children from the Pfaffstätten freight station as part of the festivities that had been arranged.
Thus, until 1989, the year in which the Iron Curtain fell, Austria was the only country from which the Red Army had withdrawn by state treaty.
